How Do I Put Products on Sale?

Putting a product on sale involves two steps. While setting the price is standard WooCommerce functionality, ensuring the product appears in your specific “Sale” sections requires a specific tag.

Step 1: Set the Sale Price

First, you need to define the discounted price.

  1. Navigate to Products and click on the product you want to edit.
  2. Scroll down to the Product Data panel (usually found below the main description).
  3. In the General tab, look for the Sale Price field.
  4. Enter the new, lower price.

Once saved, the product page will immediately show the crossed-out regular price and the new sale price.

Step 2: Assign the ‘sale’ Tag

Important: If you only set the price, the product will show the discount on its own page, but it will not appear in the special “Sale” query loops or carousels on your homepage.

Our themes use a specific product tag to filter these lists efficiently.

  1. In the Product Editor, look at the sidebar on the right.
  2. Find the Product Tags box.
  3. Type Sale and add it.
  4. Update the product.

Now the product will automatically be pulled into any “On Sale” section on your website.

Step 3: Manage the Percentage Badge

By default, our themes calculate the discount percentage (e.g., “-20%”) and displays it as a badge on the product card and product page. If you prefer not to show this specific percentage for a certain product, you can disable it.

  1. In the Product Editor, look at the right sidebar.
  2. Scroll to the very bottom to find ‘Show Sale Percentage?‘.
  3. Toggle the switch off.
  4. Update the product.

The product will still show the sale price, but the percentage badge will be hidden.
